PITHAPURAM - BIRTH PLACE OF SRI SREEPADA SREEVALLABHA - THE FIRST INCARNATION OF LORD DATTATREYA
Introduction:
Pithapuram is the birth place of Sri Sreepada Sreevallabha, the first incarnation of Lord Dattatreya in Kaliyuga. Sreepada Sreevallabha was born as the third child to Brahmasri Ghandikota Appalaraju Sharma and Akahanda Lakshmi Sowbhagyavati Sumati Maharani in the year 1320 A.D. Ghandikota family belong to the lineage of Sage Bharadwaja. They follow the Aapasthamba Sootra tradition. After Sree Sreepada Sreevallabha, three sisters namely Sri Vidyadhari, Radha and Surekha were also born.
The maternal grandfather of Sree Sreepada was Brahmastri Malladi Baapannavadhaani garu. His Grandmother was Akhanda Lakshmi Sowbhagyavati Rajamamba.
At the beginning of 20th Century Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati who was well known as "Tembay Swamy" came to Pithapuram during his travels in the country. He announced Pithapuram as the birth place of Sree Sreepada Sreevallabha. Till that day, this fact was unknown to residents of Pithapuram village and the whole Telugu People of the country. Afterwards the famous Dattopaasaka Sri Sri Sri Satchidanandendra Saraswati Swamy and his dear disciple 'Brahmajnana Kavi' Sri Devarao Kulkarni came to Pithapuram. They adored, worshipped Sree Sreepada and carried extensive propaganda about Pithapuram. After that the disciple of Sri Sridhara Swami , an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya, Sri Sri Sajjanagada Ramaswamy came to Pithapuram under his Guru's instructions. He immediately took 'Deeksha' for the awakening of Sanatana Dharma and the public consciousness was roused to take up the construction of a temple and other activities in the birth place of Sree Sreepada. It was indeed Sri Sajjanagada Ramaswamy who was responsible for persuading the devotees to turn towards spirituality and divinity and established the Sree Sreepada Sreevallabha Maha Samsthanam. He extensively propopagated the greatness and supremacy of Sree Sreepada Sreevallabha. He successfully undertook many developmental activities to provide accommodation facilities to the devotees coming from various places for the darshan of Sree Sreepada Sreevallabha.
